For more than 20 years, Cameco has been actively reaching out to the Aboriginal community.
As a result of cultivating Aboriginal business relationships in trucking, catering, aviation, construction, mining, security, maintenance, and environmental services, today, no facet of the company lacks a contract relationship and, says Jamie McIntyre, director of sustainable development for Cameco, they’re constantly looking for new ones.
“Essentially, what we’ve done is place the recruitment of northern and Aboriginal people at the top of the company’s recruitment agenda, particularly in our mining operations,” says McIntyre.
“We’re building our future workforce… our goal is to have 67 per cent of our operating workforce coming from the north by 2013.”
Currently, Cameco is the largest industrial employer of Aboriginal workers in Canada with between 800-900 Aboriginal employees which constitutes 50 per cent of its operating workforce.
