Racism Free Workplace Strategy

The Racism-Free Workplace Strategy (RFWS) is HRSDC-Labour Program’s component of Canada’s Action Plan Against Racism (CAPAR).

The Racism-Free Workplace Strategy aims to address employment-related discriminatory barriers and increase the representation and upward mobility of Aboriginal peoples and members of visible minorities. It focuses primarily on workplaces covered under the Employment Equity Act.

In 2008, the Aboriginal Human Resources Council (AHRC) was the successful bidder of a contract led by the RFWS. The Strategy and the Council have now partnered together to implement creative solutions to resolve the challenges faced by employers covered under the Act relating to the recruitment, retention and advancement of Aboriginal employees. We anticipate the AHRC will assist firms in creating inclusive practices and policies relating to challenges by providing a comprehensive training package for employers.

The training package is meant to:

  1. Foster increased awareness of stereotypes that may inhibit the degree of interest that companies may have in hiring Aboriginal employees;
  2. Assist companies in developing and fostering partnerships with Aboriginal peoples communities and network organizations.

The scope of the work envisaged through this contract will include structured and well-developed training sessions, as well as tools, tip-sheets and resources, a web-site portal, environmental scans, workshops, conferences and much more.

The RFWS and the Aboriginal Human Resource Council are proud to present these resources designed specifically to provide you with the knowledge and critical skills required to work with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal employees to create a truly inclusive workplace. The Aboriginal inclusion strategies assembled, will help position your organization as an employer-of-choice for Aboriginal talent.
