Online Aboriginal Procurement Training
Developed with the expertise of a national partner group, our online web-based Aboriginal procurement workshop is a convenient training option that can be taken from the comfort of your desk or home. The training is designed to help procurement managers and supply chain specialists better use and develop effective tools and strategies to find and procure from Aboriginal businesses that meet their organization’s needs.
This online workshop includes video modules, resource documents, a learning journal and competency checks, as well as a skills survey. The total time for you to complete the workshop will range between three and four hours. With confirmation of your online purchase, you will receive a password that allows you to access the online training from any computer on four different occasions, for up to four hours, in order to complete the workshop.
Training Outcomes
You will learn the business case and benefits of Aboriginal purchasing, the internal systems and practices that need to be taken into account to be successful in Aboriginal procurement, and Aboriginal supplier outreach, evaluation, contracting and monitoring activities.
Upon completion of this workshop you will be able to:
- Build a business case that will support increased sourcing from Aboriginal suppliers
- Cite the key elements of an Aboriginal procurement strategy and policy framework
- Define how a company qualifies as an Aboriginal business
- Review existing procurement practices to identify potential barriers to Aboriginal businesses
- Introduce adjustments to sourcing practices that will increase the percentage of goods and services sourced from Aboriginal businesses while maintaining equitable practices and long-term value
- Strengthen links between First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities and community economic development
- List techniques and tips to help you develop a list of Aboriginal businesses that will meet your procurement needs.
Large companies that have many procurement needs, and are thinking about adopting or expanding their work with diverse suppliers, will especially benefit through this workshop.
Accreditation
Accredited members of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) may be eligible to earn credits toward maintenance of their supply chain management professional designation. Please consult with your PMAC provincial or territorial institute for details.
After successful completion of the online workshop you will receive a certificate of completion in the mail from the Aboriginal Human Resource Council.
