All pre kick-off workshops are included with your Inclusion Works ‘12 delegate registration fee. Grab your bagged lunch in the tradeshow (compliments of Agrium) and then head to one of these four learning events. There is no need to pre-register for the workshop you want to attend.

Workshop A
Climbing the Inclusion Continuum on the "Digital Ladder": Growing Your Inclusion Team Online

Learn how to improve your Aboriginal inclusion strategies and contribute to the development of the council’s learn-at-your desktop products. Discover what online inclusion products are now available to you. Take this opportunity to help set the stage for products that will help you embed your inclusion commitment deeper and more broadly within your organization, while engaging employees and contractors in the understanding of inclusion principles and the value proposition of an inclusive workplace.

Contribute your valuable front-line input into the research, development and delivery of online learning products and tools that YOU WANT, and will be able to access soon through the Aboriginal Human Resource Council’s new and developing "Inclusion Classroom."

Guiding Circles: Understanding Yourself and Finding New Possibilities

This session will bring Guiding Circles to life so you can experience first hand, the impact of this career tool, which some workshop participants have described as "profound".

Using activities from the Guiding Circles career tools, this session will enable human resource professionals, recruiters and managers to reflect on their own career paths and experience the personal impact that these unique career tools can have. Spend time exploring ways Guiding Circles can enhance your recruitment, retention and advancement practices in your workplace, and how you can adapt components of this flexible program to meet many unique needs in your specific workplace.


Workshop D
Legal Bootcamp: Building Aboriginal Economic Development and Procurement

Facilitator: Rob Miller LLP, MillerTiterle LLP Bio

Project developers and service providers are becoming increasingly eager to engage Aboriginal communities, but communities often struggle with assessing proposed partnerships, identifying common pitfalls and ensuring that economy is developed in a manner that provides real and lasting benefits to membership. Workshop will include:

  • overview of the law on the duty to consult and what that means in terms of community leverage
  • discussion of various legal structures used by Aboriginal communities in pursuing commercial activities
  • review of common pitfalls that befall communities, from governance issues to taxation missteps
  • background on issues relating to Aboriginal procurement and involvement of Aboriginal owned business entities into your supply chain
  • brainstorming session on how communities can take steps to ensure that benefits flow to membership in positive and enduring ways
  • roundtable on what works and what doesn’t work - based on the experience of the presenter and audience members.

Be prepared to share the experiences of your own community and to learn from the experience of your colleagues.
