Susan Haywood

Susan Haywood is an HR Professional with many years of experience in working with employers, employees, government agencies and other stakeholder groups on issues related to immigration, recruitment, training, employee engagement, and diversity management. She is experienced in managing change among employer groups where traditional thinking dominates, for example, she has been involved in engaging members of the non-traditional workforce and in negotiating new processes with union groups. She has worked on many initiatives that involve government liaison or sponsorship,
for example, Employment Insurance programs and immigration. She is also experienced in recruiting and orienting Internationally Educated Professionals and in
advising employers on issues regarding the immigration procedure and how to best engage these employees in the workplace.

She has facilitated the recruitment of foreign trained physicians and engineers requiring her to partner with Citizenship and Immigration, Human Resources and Social Development Canada, as well as the Canadian Embassy in the applicant’s home nation. Susan also volunteered with the Maritime Immigration Support Agency as an Interviewer where she met regularly with new immigrants looking for work, provided coaching on
resume preparation, and conducted practice interviews where she provided candidates with constructive feedback to prepare them for real industry interviews.

Susan is well-versed in cultural sensitivity training and has conducted diversity / inclusion training across Canada and in the United States. She is currently involved in working with an international NGO related to inclusion of people with physical disabilities. She also has personal experienced working as a member of a minority group, having been one of very few female officers serving with the Canadian Forces.
