Nouman Ashraf is the anti-racism and cultural diversity officer at the University of Toronto, where he works closely with members of the faculty, administration as well as student leaders around various policy and program issues. He has a special interest and expertise in issues pertaining to race and ethno-cultural issues on campus and has spoken at various conferences at institutions of higher learning. Ashraf has been a community translator for the Toronto District School Board since 2000 and is the author of “Why Non-traditional Students Matter” in Educated Solutions, published by the Ontario Undergraduate Students Alliance (September 2004) and “Community Development at the Post-secondary level: Some Key Considerations” in Communiqué Magazine (Fall 2004). In 2005, Ashraf was a trainer at the Ontario Provincial Police’s Critical Response Team Retreat, and in 2006, he was invited by the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario to be an expert witness at the Community Task Force on Hate Crimes. Before assuming his current position at the University last August, Ashraf worked in the family care and faculty relocation office, the School of Graduate Studies and Student Affairs. He has an undergraduate degree in Economics and History as well as an Executive MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He is the recipient of the Founding Friend on Campus Award from the Hillel of Greater Toronto.
