Peggy Berndt serves as the council’s core communications and marketing strategist.
Peggy has been a strong player in communications on the regional and national scene since 1987. She has acquired distinctive skills across a wide-spectrum of strategic communications; particularly in the areas of communications/marketing planning, media relations, social media, cause marketing and crisis communications.
Peggy started her communications career with the Government of Alberta in 1985. She was a catalyst in developing internal and external partnerships and resources to strengthen Alberta’s communications systems at local, provincial and national levels. She became “a veteran of the front lines” by crafting rapid strategic responses to crisis events and managing communication activities in Alberta’s provincial emergency operations centre.
As a consultant, Peggy acquired a national reputation for the rapid response capabilities she developed for crisis communications and her strategic work to shift inaccurate or misunderstood public perceptions
She has managed communication and marketing campaigns that have reshaped the perceptions of Albertans and Canadians on issues from traffic safety to health care. She now applies her passion for the cause to celebrate the many successes of Aboriginal Peoples and spread word across the nation about the economic and social potential of an inclusive Canada through the advanced participation of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people in the workforce.
Peggy lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
